Pals Animal Life Savers: Senior Pet Adoption Assistance Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The grant helped Marlo, our 14-year-old diabetic senior cat, get adopted. The grant was used to waive his adoption fee and supply prescription food, insulin, and needles for eight months.

Marlo has been in foster care since July 2017. He has been on our PALS Animal Life Savers website and featured as Pet of the Week in the local newspaper in December 2017 with no interested adopters. Since Marlo is diabetic, he could not come into the adoption center; therefore, potential adopters could not see his awesome personality. With the grant helping to pay for eight months of prescription food, insulin and needles, it helped assist Marlo's foster family in adopting him.

We can’t thank the Petfinder Foundation enough for their generous Senior Pet Adoption Grant to help our 14-year-old diabetic cat, Marlo, find his forever family. Marlo came from a family that had had him since he was a kitten, and, when he was 12, found out that he had diabetes and wanted him to be euthanized. The veterinarian knew Marlo’s sweet personality, so PALS was called to the rescue!

Marlo went right into foster care, with many trips to the veterinarian to balance his insulin. The diabetes also caused Marlo to have a weak back end, which limits his jumping abilities. Diabetes also damaged his teeth, causing him a lot of pain. After several extractions to remove the damaged teeth, he felt so much better. With only three teeth left, he has no problem eating both wet and dry food.

Here is a message from his adoptive family: “Marlo is such a wonderful cat that we fell in love with him immediately. We just love him to pieces! We are so fortunate that he has chosen us to take care of him. He gives back so much more than what we do for him. He truly warms our hearts! Thank you so much for the grant and helping Marlo to become a permanent part of our family!”
