Prairie Paws Animal Shelter, Inc.: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
This grant was used to waive the adoption fees of all pets who had been up for adoption for two weeks or more. Not only did this grant help us place 39 of our pets into loving homes, these 39 were our pets with the longest lengths of stay.
Waiving the adoption fees allowed adopters to try out dogs in the home they typically wouldn't have tried. If the adoption didn't work out, the dog could be returned, risk-free, and the adopter could try another dog.
These trial adoptions were incredibly successful and we would DEFINITELY love to run this promotion again. By having the adoption fees reimbursed by the Petfinder Foundation, our organization was able to run this promotion at no cost to our facility.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Ollie was a beautiful red golden retriever who had been at Prairie Paws 13 times in the last 12 months for running loose. His owners continued to claim him, until they decided that, due to being unable to confine him, it was safer to surrender him to be rehomed.
Ollie was an escape artist who needed a special home with a high fence and other dogs to keep him company. During the Kia promotion, Ollie’s adoption fee was waived so that adopters could try him out in the home risk-free, and after three in-home trials, he found his forever home.
Without this promotion, there is a good chance Ollie would still be in our facility waiting on a home.
