R.O.A.R. to Protect Adult Cats from FeLV

BIG BEN
Give to us through Global Giving from 10/14-11/12 and have double the impact for homeless pets like Big Ben.

You’ll help vaccinate twice as many homeless pets like Big Ben (above) if you donate to us through Global Giving from Oct. 14-Nov. 12.

For those 30 days, Animal Planet’s R.O.A.R. is matching donations to the Petfinder Foundation dollar-for-dollar (learn more about the campaign here). That means twice as many groups like South Pacific County Humane Society in Long Beach, Wash., can vaccinate adult cats against diseases like FeLV. Executive Director Jeannette Sterling tells us how our vaccination grant helped 80 of the group’s temporary residents, including Big Ben:

“This grant saved us dollars on the purchase of needed vaccines. By saving those funds, we were able to stretch our medical dollars for the year and do some badly needed dentals on several of the animals that came into our care. This grant also allowed us to vaccinate all of the adult cats in our facility against feline leukemia [FeLV], something we usually only do for our kittens.

“Big Ben is a shorthaired 4-year-old neutered male white-and-grey cat who lives in our cat community room, the Playroom. Ben is the kitty greeter and caretaker. As new cats are introduced into the playroom, Ben makes sure he is the first cat to greet them. His sweet demeanor and confidence make the new cats feel welcome. He never shows them anything but kindness. He cares for the younger cats, following them around and encouraging them to play with him. In the afternoons he can be found sleeping on a large dog bed surrounded by several cat friends, all of whom are snuggled up with Ben.

“Ben may not be our prettiest cat, but he is for sure our most caring cat! Big Ben received his feline leukemia vaccination thanks to a Petfinder Foundation Shot At Life vaccination grant.”

(Update: Big Ben has been adopted!)

Ben and many other cats at South Pacific County Humane Society were helped by our A Shot at Life vaccination grant program, supported by Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc., The Animal Rescue Site and GreaterGood.org.
