Humane Society of Central Arizona: KONG Toys Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
The product is used for our dogs who need enrichment during their time with us, especially our high-energy dogs who need a KONG to occupy their time while they are in their kennel or our dogs that have behavioral issues.
This grant helps our dogs by allowing them to focus on a KONG instead of the everyday noises that surround them in the kennel setting. The dogs who are primarily focused on bouncing off their kennel walls are able to lie down and work out treats that had been placed inside the KONGs. Newer, more nervous dogs benefitted from having peanut butter placed inside. The grant allowed staff to use KONGs as a positive reward for dogs they worked with on behavior issues, or as a new way to introduce themselves to our more skittish dogs.
How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Camo (first photo) benefited from receiving a KONG and was able to relax with it in her kennel setting. A lot of her focus is spent trying to get out of her kennel if people are passing by. She was able to have a KONG filled with peanut butter instead to enjoy and focus her attention. Camo has been happier since receiving her own KONG. You can meet Camo here.
