Lee County Humane Society: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
With the Kia Pet Adoption Grant, LCHS was able to have a reduced adoption fee event, "Bark in the Mew Year," during the first week of January 2023. We were also able to completely waive adoption fees for any pet with a length of stay over 100 days, resulting in four long-term residents finding their perfect forever homes. We had a successful event with 32 pets finding their happily fur-ever afters.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Earl arrived as a young and energetic stray in the fall of 2021. He was a large kid, weighing in at 70 lbs, and all head and legs.
Due to his size, Earl needed some extra help with his impulse control, as he was easily stimulated and would overwhelm anyone he was around with his energy and strength.
Our kennel and behavior manager and staff worked consistently and diligently on modifying Earl’s lack of control and showed him that positive behaviors resulted in playtime and lots of snuggles. The staff’s hard work paid off and Earl was able to join our daily playgroups without issue and go on Doggie Dates with our volunteers.
Earl spent 464 days with his LCHS family and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house when his adoption papers were signed on Jan. 5, 2023.
