How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The League adopted out 43 cats and dogs during our Kia Adoption Event, Oct. 20-23, 2023. It was the first time we offered a "Name Your Adoption Fee" event, and it increased adoptions substantially. We saw an increase of 43% from the prior weekend (Oct. 13-16, 2023) and an increase of 126% from the same weekend the previous year (Oct. 21-24, 2022).

This includes an astounding 11 adult dog adoptions -- which, in 2023, is our highest number of adult-dog adoptions in a single weekend all year. 2023 has been an incredibly hard year for dog adoptions (our dog adoptions are down 30% in 2023 from the year prior). This spike in adult-dog adoptions this weekend buoyed our spirits and certainly convinced us that dog adoption fees may be a prohibitive hurdle for some prospective pet parents.

Three of our longest-term cats were adopted during the event.

Jello (first photo) had been at the League since January 2022. A shy guy, he was repeatedly looked over for adoption — until this weekend! His adopter did mention that the reduced fee was what brought her in; she has also inquired about adopting Jello’s best friend, Bam Bam, who has been with us since March 2022. The adopter did inquire about Bam Bam’s adoption fee, mentioning that Jello’s reduced fee help them adopt, so we have offered to extend the Price is Right weekend event for Bam Bam’s adoption, too!

Murphy (second photo) had been at the League since January 2022 and was both shy and had complicated medical needs.

Alexis (third photo) had been at the League since her owner died in June 2022 and takes lots of medication for her painful arthritis, which had discouraged adopters from considering her.

All three are now in incredible, loving homes thanks to a wonderful event!
