How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The grant funds have helped our harder-to-place pets find loving homes. The adopters received a reduced adoption fee. They then used the money that they saved on the adoption fee to pay for dog-training classes, special food for the animal, or follow-up veterinary care.

Quest is a Great Dane mix. He is a very large dog, which made people shy away from adopting him, even though he is a very sweet dog.

He came to HSCI after being at another shelter for over four months. He had gotten depressed and was losing weight. He would no longer interact with the staff or potential adopters. They transferred Quest to HSCI so that we could try to find him a home and give him a change of scenery.

We had him for a few months with no luck in finding the right person. Then an adopter came in who’d had Great Danes in the past and knew and loved the breed. He took a liking to Quest. He visited with him several times. Once we knew that he would be a great adopter, we told him about the grant and that it would allow us to offer a reduced adoption fee.

He was thrilled and adopted Quest. A picture is included of Quest in his new home. He is doing great, including picking up a little weight that he had lost. We thank you very much for the grant and how it was able to help Quest and other HSCI pets find forever homes.
