How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Our fosters need tools to engage their foster dogs, especially if they are puppies or active dogs who need mental stimulation when the physical exercise is exhausted. As a rescue, we also use Kong toys to help with any separation anxiety, which can be common with rescue dogs. As a non-profit that relies mostly on donations, canine enrichment tools are not always within reach, as we are limited in funding.

Apollo came to GPPR and was adopted briefly when he was 4 months old. He was then returned to us in May 2021. He was in rescue almost two and a half years while waiting for his forever home.

When we say rescue takes a village, we really mean it! Apollo has worked with two trainers, as well as several volunteers who helped him with walking and socializing. His foster did a lot of canine enrichment with the help of the Kongs provided by this grant. These awesome toys helped keep him engaged during down times after his walks and playtime with other dogs and those times the foster needed to keep Apollo’s brain stimulated.

Apollo was just adopted on Sept. 19, 2023, and we were able to tell the new family how much he enjoyed his Kong toys and how to use them to enrich his day!
