Foothills Humane Society: Dog Enrichment Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
We currently have 129 dogs in our care, 70 of whom have been in our care longer than 30 days. Thirteen of those dogs have been in our care longer than six months! No matter how you look at it, this is too long for any dog.
We do our best to try and make sure that they receive walks and as much enrichment as possible. With this many dogs, we need to lean on items such as Kongs, food puzzles, and swimming pools. The dogs love all of those things!
The Kongs and puzzles can be used throughout the year. The swimming pools will be used as long as it is nice and warm. This grant has provided our dogs with endless fun: If they get tired of a puzzle, we just change it up with another! A happy dog makes a happy volunteer and employee. A happy dog is also more likely to be adopted!

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
The first photo shows two dogs enjoying the pool. They loved playing in and running into and out of the pool. They really blossomed, and this allowed us to get some great photos of them!
These gals arrived at the shelter on March 8, 2023. Roxee (also shown in the second photo) is still awaiting her forever home, but now she isn’t sad because she knows she has the entire pool to herself! She will play every day until her family comes for her.
The other dog’s name is Pop Tart (also in the third photo). On September 2, 2023, almost six months after his arrival at the shelter … he was ADOPTED!!!
Thank you so very much for giving them the tools they needed to break loose from their sadness.
